Frequently asked questions

What are my professional qualifications?

Upon entering university, I was interested in most everything, especially science. I studied chemistry for a year at Laval University, but soon realized that it wasn't for me. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in administrative sciences, I worked for the Quebec government for five years as part of a team overseeing employment assistant programs. Although this was a very pleasant and rewarding experience, I decided it wasn't fulfilling enough as a career. While I was trying to figure out which career to pursue, I decided out of shear curiosity to see a chiropractor who practiced B.E.S.T chiro-energetic therapy.

This was a life-changing experience for me. I felt so good after one session that I decided to embark on this career path. I went back to school in Toronto for four years where I obtained a doctorate of chiropractic degree. I supplemented this degree with training in the american B.E.S.T. chiro-energetic technique.

I began my chiropractic career in Australia, where I had the fantastic opportunity of filling in for a highly established chiropractor with over 30 years' experience in the field. I also studied acupuncture at Colombo Hospital in Sri Lanka. During the course of my career, I apprenticed in other techniques like applied kinesiology and the american Neuro Emotional Technique (N.E.T.).

In 1990, I opened my first chiropractic Clinique on St-Joseph Boulevard East. In 1996, Clinique chiro-energie moved to its present location at 134 St-Joseph Boulevard West.

My curiosity about the human body and my desire to help people feel their best is as strong as ever.

What is the chiro-energetic technique B.E.S.T.?

B.E.S.T is a very gentle holistic energy synchronization technique developed in the United States in 1972. It was designed to significantly reduce or eliminate interferences with the nervous system to restore the body's natural repairing and healing capacities.

Interferences can prevent a specific organ or the body as a whole from functioning properly. These can be caused by different factors including physical or psychological trauma (such as a painful separation or loss of a loved one), or by an accumulation of minor stresses or as a result of major stress.

What is B.E.S.T. chiro-energetic treatment similar to?

B.E.S.T. is characterized by GENTLENESS and SIMPLICITY, resembling acupuncture but without needles. It involves applying light pressure to certain body points in order to re-establish connections between the different nervous systems (sympathetic, parasympathetic, visceral afferent).

From the moment you begin treatment, you will feel extremely relaxed, which is the first step in the recovery process.

For which medical conditions is B.E.S.T. most effective?

Like any licensed chiropractor, I hold a doctorate of chiropractic degree. This degree certifies chiropractors to provide first-rate health-care services.

However, like other licensed physicians and specialists, we are limited in what we can do, which is why we give referrals if necessary. We cannot treat all health problems; yet the wide range of what we are actually able to do is often underestimated or misunderstood.

For example, if you have an ear infection, you will probably need an antibiotic prescribed by your family doctor. However, if you have recurrent ear infections, this may indicate an imbalance in your body that is preventing it from effectively fighting off infections. This is where a chiropractor can be of help. My treatments help your body restore balance, so that you become less prone to infections and less dependent on antibiotics.

Here is a non exhaustive list of symptoms and conditions commonly treated by chiropractors:

migraines
headaches
sinusitis
dizziness, vertigo
numbness
tendinitis
epicondylitis
bursitis
sciatic pain (sciatica)
problems in the following areas:
neck
back
abdomen
legs
knees
feet
shoulders
wrists
hands
fingers
allergies
fatigue
digestive problems
respiratory problems
chronic diseases
pre-natal care
recurrent infections
constipation
diarrhea
before/after certain surgeries
enuresis (bed-wetting)
herniated disk
arthritis/osteoarthritis
carpal-tunnel syndrome

How much treatment will I need?

Very early on in my practice I realized that my patients needed a similar amount of care, regardless of the nature of their problem. The only factors that determined the length of treatment were the patients' age and the duration of their problem.

Seeing as how my patients reacted similarly to my treatments, I began to understand the body's inherent intelligence and healing power. I observed that, once the nervous system has been rid of interferences, the body can then begin to repair itself, and that in order to maintain good health, the body must remain balanced.

The healing process usually lasts between 10 and 15 sessions for most people under 50 years of age. If this number seems like a lot to you, remember that you will start to feel better from the very first session. However, feeling better does not mean you are cured.

It may happen for one reason or another that you cannot follow the entire course of treatment. You may then wish to opt for a more temporary relief, which isn't the most ideal situation but at least you will learn which factors are contributing to your problem and how to eliminate or change them. You will also be given certain exercises to do, which will help you maintain your new level of comfort.

You are in no way obligated to attend all the sessions. Our goal is to meet your needs. However, we will still inform you of the results you can expect according to your choice of treatment.

Why are the treatment sessions so frequent?

When you have an infection that needs to be treated with antibiotics, would you take the antibiotic only once a week? Obviously not! It is a known fact that our bodies need a maximum dose in a minimum amount of time to effectively fight off bacterial infections.

This same reasoning can also be applied to other health problems, be they musculoskeletal, physiological, neurological, etc. Over time, the body tries to protect itself by developing defense mechanisms such as overcompensating. Eventually, the body gets used to such defense mechanisms, which become useless and harmful. We need to “break” this vicious cycle by allowing the body little time to rely on these bad habits.

This is a bit like “deprogramming” the body so that it can reboot itself. The short delay between treatment sessions allows the body to build momentum to help you recover at a faster pace.

If for whatever reason you do not wish to attend all the treatment sessions at the frequency in which I have scheduled them, please keep in mind that the longer the time between sessions, the longer the healing process, so it is important to be patient.

Can treatment consist solely of B.E.S.T. chiro-energetic treatment?

I do this quite regularly and the results have been great, but some patients actually do need traditional chiropractic therapy in addition to B.E.S.T.

For example, traditional chiropractic techniques are used to re-align vertebrae, which immediately relieves pressure on the surrounding tissues (nerves, muscles, ligaments), thereby reducing pain and inflammation at the site.
